Prevent Gum Recession From Harming Your Smile
Gum recession is a condition that not only affects the structure of your teeth, but also impacts the aesthetics of your smile. Gums may begin to recede after bacteria or plaque start irritating the soft tissues surrounding the tooth. Gum tissue will pull away from the teeth, creating pockets where bacteria thrive, and exposing the sensitive tooth root. Other causes include brushing too aggressively, genetics, and oral trauma. An exposed tooth root that is no longer protected by gum tissue is easily damaged from bacteria, everyday food and drinks, and may even become loose and fall out.
Common Symptoms of Gum Recession
- Tooth sensitivity to hot or cold beverages
- Teeth appear longer than before
- Loose or shifting teeth
- Swollen, tender gums
- Small spaces forming between teeth
- Bad breath (halitosis)

What Types Of Gum Recession Treatments Do We Offer
Gum Grafting Treatment
At Advanced Dentistry, we offer some of the latest dental techniques to treat gum recession and restore your smile to its former health and beauty. We offer time-tested and effective gum grafting services and the minimally invasive Allen Tunnel Technique. For gum grafting treatment, we will take tissue from you or a donor source and apply it to the affected area. Using sutures to hold it in place, the graft will heal to your existing gums for a virtually seamless and natural-looking appearance.
The Allen Tunnel Technique
The Allen Tunnel Technique is an advanced form of gum rejuvenation that involves significantly less cutting. Dr. Varghese John will gently make a space, or “tunnel,” between your gums and teeth in the affected area. A graft material called AlloDerm® will then be threaded through this space to cover the exposed roots and sutured to your existing gums. This removes the need to take a graft from the roof of your mouth or other location and the AlloDerm will heal to your gums in a natural and effective manner.
