Restoring Your Smile with Dental Implant Surgery

While many practices must refer patients to other practices for dental implant surgery, 65373571Advanced Dentistry in Sugar Land stands apart because Dr. Varghese John can place and restore implants. He is a Diplomate of the International Congress of Oral Implantologists who has the skill to personally perform every stage of your restorative treatment with precision and efficiency. If you are suffering with a compromised smile, Dr. John can restore the comfort and confidence you deserve. To learn more, contact Advanced Dentistry today.

The number of dental implants you will receive depends on the number of teeth you are missing, although you will not always necessarily need one implant per single missing tooth. In fact, a few strategically placed implants may be capable of supporting your bridge or denture. Dr. John will conduct a thorough analysis of your smile to determine the kind of restoration and the number of dental implants you require.

Dr. John utilizes advanced technology to maximize the safety, precision, and benefits of dental implant surgery. Advanced Dentistry is one of few practices in our area to feature an on-site CT scanner to create 3D images of your teeth, gums, and jaw bone. These images allow Dr. John to plan the best placement for each individual implant you will receive. Using these scans, Dr. John can even perform a “test run,” virtually placing your implants on your digital scans for further evaluation. A carefully planned dental implant surgery can provide you with a lifetime of benefits, and we take every measure to provide those benefits to you.

On the day of your dental implants surgery, Dr. John will numb your gums and jaw using local anesthesia, and may provide nitrous oxide or oral conscious sedation, depending upon your needs. Once the anesthetic has taken effect, Dr. John will create small incisions in your gums, exposing the jaw bone. Next, he will drill pilot holes into your jaw bone. The threaded implants are inserted into the pilot holes, and the gums are sutured closed to cover the implant. Depending upon the number of implants you receive, your surgery can last from one to several hours. You should arrange to have a friend or loved one transport you to and from your surgery. You will wear a temporary prosthesis while you heal.

Over the next three to six months following surgery, your jaw bone will gradually osseointegrate, or fuse, with your implants. Once Dr. John confirms that this process is complete, you will undergo a second surgery. He will once again create incisions in the gums, exposing the implants. He will attach abutments – titanium or tooth-colored fixtures that connect your implants to your restorations – and stitch the gums closed so that the abutments remain above the gum line. Once your gums have healed, Dr. John can begin the process of creating your crown, denture, or bridge.
